Alba Brass are an exciting brass quintet from Scotland who are adding their own original style to traditional brass music. Since their 2004 debut at the Aracena International Chamber Music Competition in Spain, they have appeared at concerts and festivals all over Europe, Russia, North America and the Middle East.

In addition to performing the standard brass quintet repertoire, Alba Brass regularly commission new work that includes vocal, jazz and folk elements. Recent premieres include ‘Shorthand of Emotion’ by Ryan Quigley and ‘Souch’ by Martin Green at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. ‘UnPlanFares’ for brass quintet and Scottish traditional music quartet by Steve Foreman was premiered at the 2010 PLUG Festival and ‘Paolozzi’s Windows’ for brass quintet and piano by Terry Johns was premiered at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In October 2011 Alba Brass collaborated with Sax Ecosse and The Whistlebinkies in the premiere performance of Eddie McGuire’s ‘UCS Work In Suite’.

Alba Brass has recently been recorded for the BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ and has also recorded for STV’s ‘Spirit of Scotland’ awards. In addition to this, members of Alba Brass can often be seen playing with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.
